Private tutor in Lakewood, CO
University of Pittsburgh-Pittsburgh Campus - Bachelors, Psychology , University of Denver - Current Grad Student, Counseling Psychology
I recently received my bachelor's degree and enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Denver, where I'm pursuing a degree in counseling. I chose to get my bachelor's degree in psychology because of how much I've loved helping people in one way or another. Ever since I was 18-years-old, I've worked in a leadership position as either a camp counselor or a tutor. Before I entered my master's program, I worked at a charter school for two years, where I helped middle school students gain a better understanding of English and mathematics. In addition to working as a formal educator, I've also tutored in a one-on-one setting. My time as a tutor gave me the opportunity to help individuals learn more about various subjects, including high school math, English, and reading comprehension. Since I've had the privilege to work with all grade levels, I've learned the importance of customizing teaching material to fit the needs of the specific student rather than the classroom as a whole - especially when tutoring in one-on-one situations. By doing this, I've been able to learn more about the student's interests, what they dislike, and the best way to help them overcome various academic challenges. For this reason, I prefer a student-centered teaching style that focuses more on activities than memorization.
